Firefighters have managed to contain a fire which threatened lives and homes in the City of Wanneroo, north of Perth.
Weather conditions have improved and the blaze has been downgraded to 'advice' for those in the area bounded by Wanneroo Road, Old Yanchep Road, Wesco Road, Perry Road and north to Clover Road.
The same 'advice' level remains for people in Carabooda and the western and southern parts of Nowergup in the City of Wanneroo.
Although there is now no threat to lives or homes, there is a lot of smoke in the area and DFES advise to keep up to date.
For those in the area bounded by Wanneroo Road, Old Yanchep Road, Hopkins Road, Wesco Road and south to Wattle Avenue -
- The bushfire is stationary and contained, but not under control
- Stay alert and decide what you will do if the situation gets worse
- If driving, turn your headlights on and go slow. If you cannot see clearly, pull over, keep your head and hazard lights on and wait until the smoke clears
- If you have been affected by smoke you should contact your local doctor or call Health Direct on 1800 022 222
For those west of Wanneroo Road to the coast, including the Yanchep townsite, Yanchep National Park, Eglington and Alkimos – the danger has passed but vigilance is advised.
Road closures
- Perry Road and Wattle Ave are now open
- Old Yanchep Road between Cutler Road and Pederick Road
- Wesco Road between Gibbs Road and Old Yanchep Road
Power
Western Power says more than 25 power poles in Nowergup have been damaged and crews will start network restoration works when it is safe to do so.
If you see a fallen powerline, stay well clear and make the safe call to Western Power's emergency line 13 13 51.
The fire was reported at 2.20pm on Monday, January 26.
Roughly 1530 hectares have been burnt.
The cause of the fire is unknown.
