MORE than 350 people attended the Australia Day breakfast on January 26, hosted by the Shire of Nannup with support from the Nannup Lions Club and Brett Furniss.
An Australian Citizenship Affirmation ceremony was held and the Premier’s Australia Day Awards were presented to recipients Ross Croft and the Nannup Community Kitchen.
Council congratulates all recipients on their awards and acknowledges the dedication and contribution of nominees and awardees to our community.
Ross Croft was selected as the successful candidate for the Premier’s Australia Day Award as he is a tireless worker in the community, helping many organisations and individuals without payment. Over the years Ross has been involved in the Nannup Music Club, the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival, the Nannup RSL, the Nannup Tourism Association and the Nannup St John Ambulance. On a daily basis Ross checks on many seniors in town and offers assistance with property maintenance, gardening, and just being there for a chat. Ross is always available as a Justice of the Peace to sign documents for community members.
The Premier’s Australia Day Award for the Community Group of the Year was awarded to the Nannup Community Kitchen.
The Nannup Community Kitchen commenced in October 2013 by Brownie Dickens and a dedicated group of community volunteers. Each week the group serves a healthy and welcoming meal to Nannup residents at the Bowling Club for only $5 per person.
The Nannup Community Kitchen provides an ideal place for people to meet, socialise and partake of a low cost meal and many of the people who attend live on their own so is a great place for them to meet other residents.
The Nannup Community Kitchen has received great support from residents who have donated food and money towards equipment and rent. This initiative has also been supported through the Well Being Warren Blackwood project, the Nannup Community Resource Centre and the One Life project.
