AS the warmer months produce some great crops in the backyard veggie patch, a group of locals have decided to hold a swap meet twice a month to share their excess produce.
The recently formed group, 'Bridgetown Produce Swap' is held every second Sunday at the local community centre.
Anyone that has spare produce to share is welcome to bring it along and see if there is anything on the table that they would like to take home in its place.
The group started up about eight months ago, after local Nella Martins-Garces saw an opportunity to swap excess local produce as well as a wonderful way to meet new people and share information.
"This is a great way to meet new people and have a bit of fun at the same time," Ms Martins-Garces said.
"We have people from Bridgetown, Boyup Brook, Manjimup and Balingup coming along to our fortnightly gatherings. You are welcome to bring along excess from your garden or from home baking, as well as kitchen items, jars, eggs, fertilisers and homemade beauty or cleaning products."
The Bridgetown Produce Swap started up about eight months ago at the Bridgetown Memorial Park, but really took off once they changed venues to the local Bridgetown Family and Community Centre (BFCC).
"It was great to change to a better venue, as sometimes we needed to get out of the weather," Ms Martins Graces said.
Amanda Sousa from Bridgetown has been a regular attendee of the fortnightly gatherings and enjoys the produce that is available to swap.
"At this time of the year there is so much to share, with strawberries, plants, plums, cauliflowers, broccoli, sheep manure, eggs and bottled jams and chutneys being placed on the table at the last gathering," Mrs Sousa said.
"It is also a wonderful opportunity for us all to share stories and information to help each other improve their own crops."
The Fresh Produce Swap is held every second Sunday at 2pm, on alternate weekends to the Bridgetown River Markets. The next gathering will be on Sunday February 8.
