LOCAL junior sports clubs will be given a boost again this year with funding through KidSport.
Since the program was implemented just over two years ago, just over 100 new participants have joined local sporting clubs. All this was made possible through KidSport funding.
“KidSport is a unique partnership between the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup and the Department of Sport and Recreation which aims to get more kids involved in sport,” Premier Colin Barnett said.
“Sport is not a luxury. It should be part of every child’s day and is a vital part of a well-rounded, long and healthy life.”
Children who previously may not have been able to take part in sport and recreation due to financial constraints will be eligible for membership fee subsidies up to $200 per year. There is no limit to the number of children per family.
Without assistance from the KidSport program these children might not have been able to compete at all this year.
“It’s fantastic to see the KidSport program give our kids the opportunity to not only participate in sport and recreation, but to excel in it,” Shire President Steve Dilley said.
“Every kid should be given the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation regardless of their financial background. Participating in sport not only makes our kids happier and healthier, it brings the community closer together and strengthens us as a whole.”
People who are eligible include those with Health Care Cards or Pension Concession Cards, or those who are referred by recognised referral agents, including community organisations and leaders, such as juvenile justice teams, police, principals and health and education officials.
Winter junior sporting clubs are gearing up for another season, and families are encouraged to enrol children to play one of the many sports on offer. The process is simple - parents/guardians can simply pick up an application form from their local sports club, the Shire Office or visit www.donnybrook-balingup.wa.gov.au/Community/KidSport to download an application form and submit it to the Shire of Donnybrook Balingup.
