SCIENCE is a huge part of everyday life and it can be a lot of fun. Students at Nannup District High School were recently reminded of this fact, without a periodic table or white coat in sight.
Students were given demonstrations of simple experiments and then asked “What do you think will happen?”, “Do you think this will work?” and the ever popular “Will it explode?” encouraging students to question their surroundings and interactions within these surroundings.
Younger students watched in amazement as a balloon was sucked into a flask after a small flame was put inside. They immediately asked why it didn’t pop and then “How are you going to get it out?”
Older students were then introduced to some facts about water they might not have thought about before, this time being asked about variables and how outcomes could be affected.
Interactive workshops for the primary students were held in the afternoon, offering the students a chance to have a more “hands-on” experience.
Scitech Outreach program visits schools all over the state offering demonstrations and workshops.
The Scitech Science Museum is located in West Perth and is open daily. Visit scitech.org.au for more information.
