IT was a proud moment for foundation member of the Boyup Brook Museum Arnold Bode when he officially opened the new machinery and wash house buildings.
About 70 people gathered for the formal occasion including Mr Bode’s daughter Carol Forrest and son Daniel.
Both buildings are filled with interesting articles from the past and have relieved the congestion in the main building. The machinery shed includes a Chevrolet truck and Mr Nix’s first tractor in the district while the wash house is a home for numerous stove heated irons, wringers, washing boards and washing machines.
Since 1991 Mr Bode has been part of many major projects for the Museum including the building of the main building and Agricultural Shed. He helped to relocate the Kulikup School from Kulikup to the Museum. Moving the Dinninup Siding shed wasn’t as easy and produced many problems - it was moved in pieces and on arrival at the destination nothing seemed to fit.
“It tested our skills,” Mr Bode said, “but it was a great sense of achievement when it all came together.”
The Museum continues to grow and is a wealth of past treasures. Friends of the Museum are always pleased to welcome visitors. The Museum is open on Wednesdays and Thursday from 10am to 3pm and Fridays from 10am to 5pm. Entry is $5 for adults, $10 a family and $2 for children.
