THIS year marks a significant moment in the history of Donnybrook Fire and Rescue as they recognise 50 years of service to the Donnybrook-Balingup Shire.
This assistance also extends to much of the South West including traveling to Capel, Bunbury, Bridgetown, Boyanup and Boyup-Brook. Extreme circumstances have also required Donnybrook Fire and Rescue to travel long distances to aid fires such as those in Bullsbrook and Northcliffe.
Over the years Donnybrook Fire and Rescue volunteers have been required to leave their families as well as their full time employment to attend incidents during any time of the day and night. These include circumstances such as; motor vehicle accidents, wildfires, structural fires and at times even rescuing a few cats from high places.
Brigade Captain of 20 years Russell Jones said some members have been with the brigade for over 35 years.
“There is a lot of responsibility and commitment, but also a great deal of satisfaction when helping the community,” Mr Jones said.
Mr Jones also commended the other emergency services including Police, St John Ambulance, SES and Bush Fire Brigades on their support during emergencies.
On Saturday March 14, Donnybrook Fire and Rescue invite you to celebrate their 50 years of service by attending their station open day.
From 9am till 12pm the Donnybrook Fire Station, located on Bentley Street, will be full of information and activities for all ages. The free event will allow you to grab a sausage sizzle, observe the road crash rescue demonstration, tour the station and also explore its history. There will be opportunities for adults and children to enhance their fire safety awareness by meeting the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Community Engagement Officer and participating in the children’s interactive activities including a special appearance from Freddy the Fire Engine.
The Station Open Day provides an opportunity for community members to learn about the history of the brigade but also thank all the past and present volunteers for their commitment and dedication to the safety of the Donnybrook and wider community. So make your way to the station on Saturday March 14 to enhance your knowledge and support of our local volunteers.
