A West Perth football player is recovering after dislocating his ankle during a brawl with a player from rival club Subiaco at a popular night spot.
Police were called to the Hip-E Club in Leederville after reports of a fight on Saturday night.
The incident has been reported to the West Australian Football League which is expected to take disciplinary action.
A spokesman for the West Perth Football Club declined to name the player who was injured.
"We can confirm that one of our players was injured in an altercation with a Subiaco player at a popular Perth nightspot," he said.
"Both clubs are working collaboratively with the WAFL to conduct further inquiries."
A WAFL spokesman said: "The West Australian Football League is aware of an incident alleged to have occurred at a public venue on Saturday night involving Subiaco and West Perth football clubs.
"The WAFL, Subiaco and West Perth are working together to gather more information about the alleged incident and will cooperate fully with police as required."
The player who suffered a dislocated ankle in the fracas chose not to press charges.
Subiaco and West Perth have a strong rivalry, with both clubs playing in the league for more than a century.
West Perth and Subiaco have played against each other 336 times, with West Perth claiming victory on 211 of those occasions.
The two clubs are due to battle it out again, on the field, on Saturday April 11.
Subiaco Football Club was contacted for comment but was unable to reply in time for publication.
The Hip-E club was also contacted for comment.
