THE Bridgetown Lawn Tennis Club held its annual Easter Tournament last weekend, with veteran John Campbell claiming his ninth singles title.
Campbell defeated local Paul Starkie in a tight contest, with Starkie losing in a tie break, 6-4 6-7 (7-4) 7-6 (10-8).
In the men’s double division 1, Adrian Marsegaglia from Applecross and Phil Wearing from Manning defeated local Paul Starkie and Robert Musgroves from Scarborough, also in a tie breaker.
Women's singles Division 1 was won by Natalie Fuller from Reabold, defeating her younger opponent Lauren Pereira from Scarborough. Local Brooke Clynch came third in this tough competition.
The Women's Doubles Division 1 was won by mother and daughter team Judy and Megan Kozak from Nedlands.
Other results saw local John Bignel win the Men's Singles Seniors division, with local Mark Pemberton coming fourth. Damon Lukins and Sean Mahoney from Bridgetown were runner ups in the Men's veterans Division 3 competition, being defeated by Blue Gum tennis players, Brahim Ammali and Alec Malcom. Ex-local Dominic Sterne and Bluegum veterean Colin Lorrimar won the Men's Doubles Division 3 competition.
Bridgetown Lawn Tennis Club President and Tournament Director Chris Shedley said it was a nicely balanced tournament with good numbers in most events.
"It was great to see Campbell back to his best, he is playing really well," Mr Shedley said. "Unfortunately Starkie lost both his singles and doubles finals in tie breakers, so he will be pretty disappointed. He is serving well so he should be good to fight back next year.
"The talent of players was really high once again this year and the standard of the juniors was fantastic. The courts stood up well and the structure seemed to keep most players happy."
