THE Bridgetown Swimming Club have celebrated the end of a summer season dominated by a whole new challenge - losing their home at the Bridgetown Swimming pool while the pool is being rebuilt.
The club has operated for many years, providing a structured environment for young children to develop their swimming for competitiveness and fitness. With the closure of the local pool, the committed swimmers then decided to continue their training by travelling to Manjimup two to three times each week.
Dedicated coaches Graeme Campbell and Kelly Elam encouraged the kids to stick with it, and ensured they all maintained the required high levels of fitness and devotion needed to fulfil their training requirements.
Bridgetown Swimming Club President Leanne Holdsworth said it had been a challenge for the swimmers and parents having to travel all the time, but it had been worth it.
"There was a huge impact for all involved as far as travelling to Manjimup," Mrs Holdsworth said. "Not only is this a major financial impact, but at times it is extremely tiring. Still, so many of our members stuck with it.
"All of our swimmers are fantastic role models for each other and have achieved outstanding results in one way or another. They are all amazing and need to give themselves a big pat on the back.
"Now we look forward to a great new season at our brand new pool!"
