BRIDGETOWN author Elizabeth Denniss is excited to be launching her first novel, Horses, Heartaches and Healing.
Ms Denniss held the book launch at the Bridgetown Library on Thursday April 16 while making a donation of the book to the library at the same time.
The story is about wild horses that are rescued from drought and certain death in the Australian outback. The horses, whose ancestors were bred to provide remounts to the Australian Army and the West Australian Police Force, were originally considered feral brumbies, but after their rescue were classified as old bloodline Walers.
The horses were saved by members of the Outback Heritage Horse Association of WA Inc, a charity formed to protect and preserve old bloodline horses.
The story of their survival and the release of the book is appropriate to coincide with the 100th Anniversary of Gallipoli, where many Australian Light Horsemen served and died as infantry.
“It’s quite surreal,” Ms Denniss said. “My book is about the rescue of wild horses and the charity responsible for saving them. It gives me goose bumps that this is all happening in April as we commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Gallipoli, given so many light horsemen were sent there to serve as infantry.”
Internationally renowned trainer and horse whisperer Franklin Levinson, wrote the foreword for the book.
“The combination of a compelling and rather unusual story coupled with good talent as a writer can produce a book that is not only a good read, but one that can inform, inspire and uplift those who read it. Horses, Heartache and Healing in my opinion is such a book,” he said.
