IN 2013 the Nannup Glee Club commissioned Nannup local artist, Heath Pickett, to create a cairn. Each year the Glee Club gathers at the monument to commemorate the local Anzacs who fought so courageously for their country.
The singers, currently comprising of 12 members, meet each week and for the past three years they have met at this very special place which marks the site from which our gallant service personnel left for foreign shores.
This year Glee Club founding member Val Russell spent many hours creating amazing mixed media poppies in order to recreate her interpretation of the poppies in Flanders field, marking the 100th Anzac Day Commemoration. These were on display over the weekend at the cairn, the Nannup Town Hall and the Nannup Bowling Club. Some remain on permanent display at the Nannup Historical Society building.
Nannup Glee Club performed both the Australian and New Zealand National Anthems beautifully, singing the first verse of the New Zealand National Anthem in Maori.
The Glee Club meets each Thursday at 5.30pm-6.30pm in the Nannup District High School’s Music Room. New members are always welcome.
