ONE hundred and seventy three competitors braved rainy conditions to take part in the 2015 Greenbushes Fun Run on Sunday May 17 and raise funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia.
Manjimup’s Ronan Phillips-Johns, 15, blitzed the 10km field to finish the forest-based race in a time of 45:48 seconds.
Phillips-Johns, who has been running in marathons for the past four years, was awarded first prize in the U 17 category of the event ahead of Bridgetown’s Kyle Wilson who finished the run in 47:15.
The two young runners were well ahead of the majority of the field, with Wilson in third place overall in the field of 10 km runners and just five seconds behind the winner of the adult category.
Winner of the adult men’s category for runners aged between 17 years and 49 years was Andrew Bates, who finished in a time of 47:10. In second place was Michael Taylor who finished in a time of 49:12.
Winner of the women’s 10 km category was Clare Wardle from Perth who finished in a time of 51:09.
Second in the women’s 10 km category was Sarah Wickham with a time of 1:00:04.
Winner of the Veteran Men’s category was Andy Johns from Manjimup who finished in a time of 47:43 ahead of Bjorn Dybdahl from Perth on 50:09.
Bridgetown runner Leonie Papasergio was awarded first place in the Veteran Women’s category with a time of 1:08:02 ahead of Karen Royer, also from Bridgetown, who finished in a time of 1:11:07.
Winner of the girl’s under 17 category was Dakota Poulton who finished in a time of 1:15:51.
The 5km run/walk saw some keen competition from a large field of runners and walkers which included pets and toddlers in prams.
Overall winner of the 5km category was David Soloman who finished in a time of 22:46 with Russell Forrest in second position with a time of 23:18.
Winner of the Adult Women’s category was Carolyn Mader with a time of 26:36 ahead of Kathryn Diss on 27:03.
In the U12s section Kim Foster of Bridgetown took out first spot and third placing overall with a time of 25:44. Second place in the U12 division went to Nathan Davies of Bridgetown with a time of 29:27.
Aled Phillips-Johns of Manjimup took out first place in the U17 division finishing with a time of 25:58 and leading to a hat-trick for the family with brother Ronan winner of the U17 10km and father Andy taking out the Veteran Men’s first place in the 10km course.
Bridgetown youngster Abbey Basterfield won the girls U17 with a time of 27:26 ahead of Meg Taaffe on 33:56.
Winner of the U12 event in the 5km category was Karla Hall who finished with a time of 32:58 with Grace Henderson –Mott in second spot on 33:02.
The Veteran Men’s winner was Martin Quill of Greenbushes with a time of 31:17 with Guy Meade from Bunbury in second position with 32.52.
Veteran women’s winner was a tie with Bev Garret and Leanne Green finishing on 42:00.
