BRIDGETOWN-Greenbushes Shire Council have introduced on a trial basis the provision of a subsidised membership fee to the Recreation Centre gym for local emergency services volunteers.
The trial period commenced at the beginning of March 2015 and will continue until the end of June 2016. Many local volunteers have decided to utilise the subsidised membership since it began.
Bridgetown-Greenbushes Shire Chief Executive Tim Clynch said the partnership between the Shire and emergency services was an important one and the subsidy would improve the general health and wellbeing of volunteer emergency services personnel.
“Our emergency service volunteers, fire fighters, SES and St John Ambulance personnel need to ensure they are in a fit and healthy state to carry out their functions," Mr Clynch said.
"Emergency service volunteers quite often find themselves in physically demanding environments and we are trying to provide an opportunity for them to be able to cope with the extra physical stress in these situations,” he said.
