PRIMARY school-aged students in Bridgetown and across Australia made important steps towards a healthier future by participating in National Walk Safely to School Day on Friday May 23.
National Walk Safely to School Day is a community initiative that aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking, especially to and from school, can provide for the long term health of children.
Hundreds of students from both Bridgetown Primary School and St Brigid's Primary School participated in the walk, with many students, parents and staff meeting at the Bridgetown Library before briskly walking together to their respective schools.
Bridgetown Primary School Principal Judith Dadson said it was a great way to start the day and there were so many benefits of walking for children.
"Participation in Walk Safely to School Day is aimed at promoting and encouraging all members of our community to take opportunities to walk as part of a healthy, active way to move around our fantastic community," Mrs Dadson said. "Walking is a simple, effective exercise that we can all regularly undertake and it has great health benefits regardless of your age."
Bridgetown Primary School students received a sticker and an apple once they arrived at school for their efforts.
