A THOMSON Brook couple have urged people to be cautious about selling cars privately after a violent home invasion and assault.
Three persons of interest arrived at the couple’s property on the afternoon of Monday June 15 to look at a car for sale.
Resident Kevin Knight said one of the people drove up and down the road outside waiting. Meanwhile another tried to keep him busy while the other started swapping batteries between cars.
When he told them the car was not for sale, Mr Knight was assaulted in front of his young son.
Resident Renae Clarke said she attempted to get her daughter off the school bus and ring the police at this time, and was confronted with one of the people walking around with a sword.
The persons of interest forcibly took jewellery and car keys from Mr Knight, then entered the house and stole keys, identification and a mobile broadband device. When they couldn’t start any of the cars, they drove off.
Ms Clarke said the cars would not start because of a hidden immobiliser.
“We stood our ground and told them the cars weren’t for sale, that’s the only reason the cars are still here,” she said.
Ms Clarke said the attack had seemed like it went forever.
“Now we’re stranded without cars, and we’ve lost a day’s work,” she said.
“The worst part was for them to do it all in front of the children.
“People need to be really cautious when selling cars privately.”
