DONNYBROOK scored a convincing 6v0 win against Exies on Saturday evening, led by its young gun players.
The team welcomed Emily Graham, joining the team over the school holiday break. She had a huge impact, scoring two goals and earning Best on Ground for Donnybrook. Shay Tyler is continuing her great form and was strong at right half back. Sharna Denholm stood tall at full back after a week of Country Week hockey.
The Donnybrook team took control early and had plenty of space to run and attack in their forward half. Donna Whitton scored two goals within 15 minutes of the starting whistle. Sarah Newman followed with another to put Donnybrook up by three goals at half time. Lydia Torrisi scored early in the second half and then Graham scored two of her own. Despite the one-sided score line, Exies young goalie played very well and stopped many shots on goal.
Kerrie Hudson, new to the team, is finding form playing on the forward line as wing and was unlucky not to score. Sophie Stewart sidelined through injury didn’t enjoy being an onlooker, and hopefully will return to the team in two weeks.
Shay Tyler was rewarded with two best player votes and Sarah Newman picked up the final one.
Next week’s game is on Saturday at 4.30pm and supporters are welcome.
