WHITE wizards, scary fairies, giant magpies and timid mice were just some of the colourful fairy tale characters to arrive in Balingup for the Telling Tales children's festival at the weekend.
The incredibly popular festival attracted people from Perth and around the South West to the small town from July 11-12 for a weekend of fun, colour, dressing up and storytelling.
Some of the storytelling and activities on offer over the weekend included writing ghost stories, bookbinding, spending time with renowned authors and illustrators including Gabriel Evans and Sean Avery, Dreamtime stories and dance with Derek Nannup and many more.
Saturday's parade was the high point for many. Characters such as the King of Hearts walked alongside knights and fairies, the devil and a witch made friends with the three of spades and Alice and the Mad Hatter were seen rubbing shoulders with Gandalf, Red Riding Hood and at least two giant rabbits.
Telling Tales continues to be a popular experience for children in the July school holidays.
