DONNYBROOK Football Club League player Simon Parry has been appointed one of the vice captains of the New Holland WA State Country Side.
Curtis Guglielmana has also been selected to play in the team, which was announced by the WA Country Football League.
The New Holland WA State Country Side will take on the South Australian Community Football League this Saturday, July 25 at 2pm at Bendigo Bank Stadium, Mandurah.
The past two encounters between WA and SA have seen the South Australians come away with two comprehensive wins, but in his debut match as coach WA’s Craig Walker believes the tide may be turning.
“We have certainly canvassed the State for the best talent this year and we believe that this is the strongest team we have put together for quite some time,” he said.
“With a good mix of size and speed we can definitely take it right up to the South Australians and peg one back.”
Troy Skilton will captain the West Australian Country side for the second consecutive year while Jayden Brooks and Simon Parry have been appointed vice captains.
The interstate clash won’t be the only match for the day, with the best young country colts taking on the best colts from the WA Amateur Football League at 12pm.
The CBH Group Country Colts have been selected from the recent Landmark Country Football Championships, so the 24 players chosen will come into the match in good form.
In the Colts competition, the country side has won the past three times they have played the Amateur Colts and WA Country Football League Operations Coordinator Shaun Jasper is tipping that trend to continue.
“The Colts division at the country week carnival certainly allows us the chance to select the best young players from around the State to represent the country areas. We are very confident that the players chosen will give the city boys some trouble,” Jasper said.
