HEADLINING a talented line-up of garden experts and celebrity chefs, award winning journalist and author Indira Naidoo will bring her passion and love of gardening to this year’s Nannup Flower and Garden Festival on August 13-16.
Now in its 19th year, the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival is excited that Ms Naidoo will be joining a stellar line-up to present ‘Night in the Garden’ - this year’s Festival theme.
Best known for her 25 years as an award winning journalist and presenter on distinguished news and current affair programs including ABC’s Late Edition and SBS TV’s World News Tonight, Ms Naidoo’s interests now focus on how global environmental issues affect conflict, poverty and food security.
Proving that you don’t need a sprawling backyard to grow delicious fruits, vegetables or herbs, Ms Naidoo will coincide her guest visit to Nannup with the launch of ‘The Edible City’, a follow-up gardening book to the ever popular ‘The Edible Balcony’. Her gardening expertise has seen her design two award-winning food gardens for the Australian Garden Show in Sydney and through her garden company, helps community groups build their own food gardens.
Joining Ms Naidoo will be WA’s Sabrina Hahn, Neville Passmore, Josh Whitehead and celebrity chef Vince Garreffa, making the 19th annual Nannup Flower and Garden Festival positively bursting with fresh ideas, expert advice and handy hints to inspire even the novice gardener.
WA’s darling of the gardening world Sabrina Hahn is delighted to be able to attend for the second year in a row and will be designing a garden to commemorate the Centenary of the All Saints Church. Ms Hahn will also participate in the Paddock to Plate program and share her expert garden knowledge during presentations on the main stage.
“Nannup has become one of my favourite destinations. Its picturesque surroundings and charming community spirit gives city people a taste of what the country has to offer,” Ms Hahn said. ”Nannup offers the ideal setting for this lovely annual event with its superb blend of history and horticulture.”
Presented by community group Nannup Garden Village Inc., event chairperson Heather Walford says the Nannup Flower and Garden Festival will be the best festival seen for many years.
“With our wonderful line-up of expert gardeners sharing their tips and tricks, and celebrity chefs demonstrating ways to turn produce the humble veggie into mouth-watering dishes there’s bound to be something for everyone,” Ms Walford said.
Bursting with colour and creative ideas, the Festival will showcase more than 120 garden and craft stalls, landscape trends, new plant releases and stunning garden displays. The breathtaking Great Hall of Flowers, decorated to the theme ‘Night in the Garden’ with magical lights and beautiful flowers continues to be a popular attraction, as will the open garden scheme and weekend garden market.
There will be an unveiling of a new living sculpture, the Centenary Garden, a dedicated children’s area, garden talks, demonstrations and floral displays. To add to the festivities there will be special events including ‘An evening with Indira’, and ‘Show Us Your Smalls’ where Vince Garreffa, the Prince of Flesh will judge a dried sausage competition.
Accommodation in the Nannup region is limited so book early to avoid missing out.
