BOYUP Brook Women’s Hockey Club celebrated their 70th anniversary on September 19.
More than fifty former and current members and supporters attended an anniversary luncheon at the Boyup Brook Club to share memories and stories of seven decades. Many laughs were had during the day as Lesley Malcolm (nee Brooks), Ginny Mitchell, Jenny Casserly and Mary-Anne Inglis reminisced about their particular eras with the Club. The common theme throughout was the fun and strong friendships that were formed from being involved in the Club.
Current Hockey Council and Women’s Hockey Club President Tara Reid acknowledged the history of the Club and inaugural member Muriel Cross, who made the journey to share the day.
A special moment of the event was the induction of Ros Chilwell into the list of Life Members of the Hockey Council.
Chilwell has contributed to Boyup Brook hockey for many years in various roles for the Women, Juniors and Hockey Council. She is a tireless worker whose dedication is remarkable, whether it is coaching, playing, catering, fundraising, organising coaching clinics, or travelling for her own or her children’s hockey commitments.
The event was also used as the windup for the 2015 Women’s team with awards being presented to Jodi Nield for fairest and best, Tara Reid for runner up fairest and best and highest goal scorer, Jodi Wildy for most improved and Millie Coole the encouragement award.
Nield was also awarded the Bunbury and Districts A2 Women’s Hockey Fairest and Best at the Association’s Presentation Night on September 6 and is currently in Brisbane with the Western Australian Over 35 Masters team, along with Jenny Casserly who is in the Over 50s team.
