THE 10th Up Close and Classical concert will be held at the Bridgetown Repertory Club this Saturday October 10, thanks to the ongoing hard work of the Bridgetown Rotarians.
This annual event was developed to showcase the performance talents of local music teachers and some of their more advanced students.
The first concert in 2006 attracted a full house, as has each of the subsequent concerts.
Concert coordinator Chris Shedley said it was exciting to hit the ten year mark of such a unique event and he was looking forward to some fantastic performers showcasing their talents.
"Each year we have introduced exciting new performers and this is again the case in 2015," Mr Shedley said. "Adrian Williams and Mary Myfanwy Evans will be performing for the first time on guitar and vocals. Young soprano Albertina Antartis returns for a second time after a wonderful performance in 2014, but this year she will be accompanied on piano by our very own Cathy Sutherland (nee Evans). They will front a varied program of piano, guitar, clarinet, viola, vocal and ballet performances.
"Other performers this year include Bridgetown choir the Jubilee Singers, pianist Leon Sanders, local music teacher Stephen Crabbe with some of his students, clarinet player Geoff Bourgault de Coudray and viola player Sally Baud, vocalists Claire and Tim Robinson, Max Curry, Donna Henning and our very popular four voice vocal group featuring Sue Bottomley, Peter and Linda Vowles and Alistair Faulkner.
"There will also be ballerina Tianna Webb and Spanish dancer Zoe Karafilis as well as a number of other very promising young music students.
"Once again the Master of Ceremonies will be the fabulous Mr Alan Wilson," he said.
The concert is a Bridgetown Rotary fundraiser, with funds going to help community groups with special projects. In the past Henri Nouwen House, St John’s and the Bridgetown Greenbushes Bushfire Brigade Support Group, the Terminus Bridgetown Family and Community Centre and the Bridgetown Repertory Club have all received funds raised at the concerts.
"This year funds raised in Bridgetown will go to Sponsoring a Mental Health First Aid course to be run at Henri Nouwen House in coming months,” Mr Shedley said.
“For a fabulous cultural night out come to the tenth annual “Up Close and Classical” concert on the 10th October in Bridgetown and experience the wonderful performing talent our community has to offer,” he said.
Pre-show drinks are available from 7pm with the show starting at 8pm sharp.
Tickets will be available from the Bridgetown Community Resource Centre.
