LOCAL wines stood out amongst the 144 entries at the recent 2015 ANZ Geographe Wine Show.
135 people gathered for a Gala Dinner on September 24 to celebrate the diversity and quality of wine being produced in the Geographe Wine Region.
Organisers said the depth and breadth of wines that were awarded medals was of significant note this year.
The Best Red Wine (Cospak and Capel Storage) was awarded to Lowden’s Bakkheia Wines 2014 Aequitas (Tempranillo).
The Best White Wine title went to the 2014 'Gabrielle' Chardonnay from Boyanup Cellars.
Smallwater Estate took out the title of Most Successful Exhibitor, sponsored by Machinery West, as well as Most Successful Small Producer.
The Nicholas Baudin Perpetual Trophy for Excellence in Winemaking was won by Peter Stanlake.
Oakway Estate won two silver medals, for their 2015 Sauvignon Blanc and 2014 Chardonnay.
The judges heaped praise on the high standard of the wines entered in this year's shows, saying they were very impressed with the alternative varieties from across the Geographe Region, in particular the Chardonnay; equally the Tempranillo, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties and blends all shone as well.
