THE Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup October School Holiday Program provided a jam-packed two weeks of fun activities for kids of all ages.
New to this program was an activity called ‘Pull Apart Play,’ offered in partnership with Bunbury Wellington Waste Management. This creative activity allowed participants to pull apart computers, TVs, stereos and toasters. Drills, screw drivers and spanners were supplied and kids young and old had a fabulous time discovering how electronic gadgets are put together.
Geocaching was another new activity introduced this time round. A large group joined in hunting out a local geocache site in Donnybrook. At its most basic level, geocaching is a game where players use GPS receivers to track down a container, or cache. Caches may contain any number of small items, or they may only contain a logbook for players to sign to mark their find.
Several of the local sporting clubs teamed up with the Shire to offer come and try activities for local children. Donnybrook Amateur Basketball Association’s basketball sessions were a hit as always. Soccer and box-fit also proved to be popular offerings.
Another favourite was the two cooking sessions offered by the Balingup and Donnybrook CWA groups. The CWA members did a fabulous job inspiring children to give cooking a go. They talked about food hygiene, measuring, mixing, stirring and above all giving new tastes a try!
