MORE than 90 children aged from five up to 16 years participated in the September/October Vacation Swim program at Donnybrook Recreation Centre’s indoor pool during the school holidays.
VacSwim has grown from its beginnings in 1919 when five instructors taught 248 children at three venues in WA, to become the largest vacation swimming program in Australia. In recent years 55,000 children have participated yearly in lessons with more than 1,500 qualified instructors at over 200 locations throughout WA.
“VacSwim was one of Donnybrook Recreation Centre’s initial programs and it has grown from strength to strength. Children can join in the fun of learning to swim with for just $1 a day, plus pool entry. It really is an unmissable opportunity,” Centre Manager Jill McLean said.
VacSwim gives all Western Australians aged between 5 and 17 years the opportunity to participate in a safe, quality swimming and water safety program. Programs run each year in the October and January holidays.
Enrolments are already open for the January 2016 VacSwim program. For more information contact the Education Department on 9345 4007 or enquire at www.det.wa.edu.au/swimming.
