BALINGUP’S popular annual Spring Picnic will celebrate the 35th anniversary of the dedication of the arboretum in 1980 on Saturday October 17.
Developing from a collection of heritage trees in a beautiful landscaped setting in the Blackwood Valley, Golden Valley Tree Park has since become the largest tree collection in WA. It has involved the dedication of hundreds of community volunteers in partnership with the Department of Parks and Wildlife. Last year alone, 71 people volunteered at the Park.
As part of the event, five trees will be dedicated to special guests who have helped to bring about the arboretum.
Golden Valley Tree Park is now listed on the National Directory of Botanic Gardens.
The year’s event will run from 2pm to midnight. It includes a fantastic programme for children, a guided walk with ecologist Wayne O’ Sullivan through the Australian plantings, traditional maypole dancing and live music headed by blues and roots band Old Blood - not to mention the famous bonfire.
