BRIDGETOWN teenager Tyler Van Diemen is preparing to head to Melbourne in December for the National All Schools Championship competition.
The competition is held from December 4-6 and is another exciting opportunity for the talented teen.
Van Diemen recently competed in the Athletes Western Australian state event, where she won gold in the 90 metres hurdles and silver in the 200 metre hurdles, gaining her entry into the national competition.
The Australian All Schools Championships in Melbourne is one of two competitions at the forefront of the national pathway for secondary school-aged students. The other competition is the Australian Junior Athletics Championships, which will be held in Perth from March 8-13 2016.
Van Diemen, 13, said she was looking forward to competing in this event and enjoyed the travel involved in competing at this level as well as the friendships.
"I was so excited to have won these medals in the state competitions," Van Diemen said. "I wasn't expecting the medal so I was really spun out.
"I would love to get to the Olympics one day. I love to travel and it is great fun making great friends and watching them compete as well."
Van Diemen has been involved in athletics for five years and her passion is hurdles. A dedicated training schedule is required to ensure success as such a high level.
"I train every day, with strength training on Mondays and Wednesdays, training in Bunbury on Tuesdays and Sundays and participation in competitions in Perth every Friday and Saturday. It is pretty busy, but I love it," she said.
"I am really looking forward to the trip to Melbourne. I have also qualified for the Australian Junior Athletics Championships in Perth next March, so that will be awesome too."
