A BRIDGETOWN woman’s experience with yoga has inspired her to establish a kids yoga class.
"I have been practising yoga for many years and have been doing it with my kids for years,” Yoga teacher Nicole Marshall said.
“At the beginning of the year I really immersed myself in yoga philosophy to help with my depression. I started learning kundalini yoga and just loved it. I started doing a few of the sequences and meditations with my kids at home. I talked to them about the importance of being true to themselves and to others and about self love and gratitude, which is the core foundation of kundalini yoga,” she said.
“I kept thinking I wish I had learnt this years ago and then it just clicked, I could become a children's yoga teacher.”
Only a few weeks after she started looking into it, she found a kundalini children's yoga teacher training course was coming to Perth.
“After the training I was so inspired to get it set up,” Ms Marshall said.
“During the session we go on different adventures and I have a lot of different themes tailored for different age groups.
“We stretch, sing, meditate, dance and play games. I get the children involved during the session and ask them to show everyone how they think a certain animal would go, then we all join in copying what they have suggested,” she said.
“What I love about it is the kids think they are having a bit of fun but all the postures have specific health benefits and the songs and games we play have meaning.
“I love sitting at the end with the group and chatting about what we have done and what they can practice at home. I am loving this journey, children are like sponges. If I can give children the tools of compassion, self love, self awareness, gratitude, mindfulness, truth and respect, which are all such beautiful assets to have, that makes me very happy."
