CRICKET: The Hay Park Redbacks claimed their second grand final win in 11 months on Sunday, when they toppled Eaton to claim the LGM Industries Bunbury and Districts Cricket Association Twenty20 premiership.
The win follows Hay Park’s A-grade regular-season win in March last year.
A strict bowling regime which consisted of a four-wicket haul from Ross Knoll lifted the Redbacks to victory.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Hay Park began with a shaky start as Eaton’s bowling attack restricted openers Jono Whitney and Mark Steven.
The pair only managed to post 22 runs through the first six overs.
But Whitney opened the bowlers up in the eighth, blasting two sixes to put Hay Park back to a reasonable run rate.
Whitney continued to strike the ball well finishing with 41 runs from 42 deliveries after being caught by Clint Hewson.
Steven finished with 20 from 28 while Knoll bagged 28 from 26, as the Redbacks ended their overs with the score of 4/138.
The Beavers got off to a nightmare start in their innings, losing James Hillery for just two runs and then Jack Groves to leave them in a 2/17 hole.
Clayton Caltsounis entered the crease and managed 24 runs to give the Beavers hope but the wickets fell gradually and the run rate was kept low.
The Beavers batted out their innings for the score of 9/106.
Knoll finished the day with the figures of 4/21 as each Hay Park bowler took at least one wicket.
The BDCA also returned to 50-over games after a lengthy break on Saturday, with the previous regular season fixture played on December 12.
Coincidentally, Hay Park beat Eaton in a 50-over match on Saturday.
