DONNYBROOK Police have issued a reminder to locals to secure their goods in sheds following an increase in thefts in a widespread local area.
Donnybrook Officer in Charge Sergeant Ryan van der Heide said there had been an increase in people going through goods in yards, and stealing of tools and other things left lying around.
Police are currently investigating a burglary in Yelverton Street on Saturday night. Recent burglaries have also been reported in Kirup and Mumballup. Vehicles have been stolen from areas including Balingup and Noggerup.
“It’s a timely reminder to secure goods in sheds, and don’t leave them in public view,” Sgt van der Heide said.
Police have had good success rates recently with persons of interest for stealing and burglary offences being identified by DNA and fingerprints.
“As such, it’s imperative that where crimes such as these occur, property owners take care not to contaminate the area by touching or moving items, which allows attending Police and forensic officers the best opportunity to gather this evidence,” Sgt van der Heide said.
“Community awareness and vigilance is needed. If you see something, say something – even if it is minor. Tell the police, not facebook.”
