A 35-year-old Boyup Brook man has been charged with drink driving and firearm offences after he was allegedly found in a roadside ditch with unsecured firearms, live ammunition and his two young children in the vehicle with him.
Bridgetown Police Station Acting Sergeant Mike Smith said he was appalled this type of behaviour continued to occur, placing children and all community members at risk.
He said police found two children aged four years and 14 months old in the vehicle with their father when they attended the crash scene.
"It is alleged the man had a reading of 0.209 grams of alcohol per 100ml of blood, which is more than four times the legal limit. He has also been charged with possessing insecure firearms and possessing insecure ammunition," he said.
"This type of behaviour is simply not acceptable and I am very concerned that it seems to be happening more frequently. Some parents are simply not considering their children's safety or the safety of other road users and community members when they get behind the wheel of their motor vehicle after consuming alcohol."
The accused was given an immediate disqualification and has been summoned to attend the Bridgetown Magistrates Court in May.
In other news Bridgetown Police stopped a motor vehicle being driven by a 21-year-old Greenbushes man on Monday April 4. He was found to be in possession of cannabis and believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time of driving. He will be summonsed to Court in May.
Bridgetown Police also executed a misuse of drugs warrant in Bridgetown on Thursday April 7, resulting in a 32-year-old female being charged with possessing cannabis, possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing prescribed medications.
"Search warrants will continue to be executed and we will continue to crack down on the misuse of drugs," Sgt Smith said. "Drugs are intrinsically linked to crime and we are very keen to ensure that drug users, drug sellers and anyone that grows or manufactures them will have their day in court."
