BRIDGETOWN resident and WA State Squad Coaching Director Mike Cornish has recently attended the World Squash Federation Coaching and Development Conference in Kuala Lumpur.
Whilst attending the conference Mike was exposed to range of worldwide expert presenters who delivered sessions on topics including Creating Elite Player Programs and Training Techniques and Strategies, which enable players to perform at their peak.
“The trip was a fantastic learning experience and I was able to mix with the best squash coaches in the world,” Mr Cornish said on his return to Australia.
“I was exposed to high level presenters, but the two sessions I found most valuable were Preparing psychologically and a session from a Brazilian coach on Movement and training.”
Cornish is currently performing the role of Junior State Team manager, which enables him to promote and coach the sport across all areas including school programs, club programs as well as regional and state talent squads.
“I’m looking forward to passing on my knowledge and experience to coaches throughout the South West to enhance their programs’” he said.
Looking to the future Cornish hopes to coach an Australian junior squad leading into the World Championships and has an ambition to be involved in the Australian coaching squad for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast.
Cornish’s Kuala Lumpur trip was assisted by the South West Sports Development Federation. The Coach Support Scheme provides funding to established South West coaches who are looking to take the next step in their coach development.
