Manjimup 15000 event promoter Willie Thomson said the weekend had attracted the best talent from Western Australia as well as interstate and overseas competitors.
“We have some great riders from Belgium, England and the USA coming along to challenge our own talented riders,” Mr Thomson said.
“It is going to be another great weekend of motocross sport and definitely worth coming along to watch.”
British rider James Laws leads the international riders along with Nick Schmidt and Alex Ray from USA and Michael Velkeneers from Belgium.
“We also have the three fastest guys in Australia coming along with Todd Water riding a Suzuki, Kirk Gibbs on a KTM and Dean Ferris with a Yamaha.” Mr Thomson said.
With more than 8000 spectators coming along to watch the event it is expected to be another fantastic weekend.
The Manjimup 15000 has been going since 1988 and was one of the biggest motocross event until it ran out of volunteers in 2005.
In 2009 the event recommenced with Willie Thomson from Dirt High Promotions taking the event organisation over.
“This will be the eighth year that I have been running this event and it is getting bigger and better every year,” Mr Thomson said.
“This year we have 580 competitors entered with state champions coming from Kununurra, Broome, Newman and Esperance.”
“The whole town of Manjimup is very supportive of this event and we have so many great volunteers coming along.
“This is now the biggest Motocross event in Australia and the riders love being a part of it. There is nothing like this in the Eastern States where so many spectators can come along to watch.”
South West residents will have the chance to Ferris as well as Yamaha ambassador and stunt co-ordinator Stephen Gall and American Motorcyclist Association Motorcycle Hall of Famer Jimmy Ellis on Thursday.
The three will appear at South West Yamaha in Bunbury from 3pm to 5pm as a meet-and-greet.
