Donnybrook daredevil Josh Sheehan has won a gold and two silvers in motocross at the X Games and dedicated them to his late brother Chris.
The 30-year-old motocross rider competed in the Coors Light Moto X Freestyle final, with a winning score of 93.33.
He pipped second-placed Rob Adelberg of Benalla, Victoria on 91.66, closely followed by Clinton Moore and Taka Higashino, both finished with a rating of 91.00.
Sheehan told reporters after the event he was over the moon to win. He also took to Twitter to say: “So stoked on the weekend! Thanks everyone for your help and support so I could get this done!”.
The X Games is an annual extreme sports event, which has run since 1995.
Sheehan had previously won two X Games bronze medals – one in last year's QuarterPipe and another in Best Trick 2011.
This year he entered the event having recovered from a number of injuries.
He broke a collarbone at the Nitro Circus tour in Europe in January, an injury that put him out of action for more than three months.
The Donnybrook farm boy’s motivation was driven by his desire to honour his older brother Chris, who died after hitting a tree during a routine trail ride near Balingup Golf Course in Mullalyup last August.
“[Chris’ passing] was a massive low and it was hard to find motivation,” he said after his big win.
“But he would want me to do my best and there is nothing better than winning so I do everything I can to get a gold for him.
“I think of Chris a lot with everything I do really – he would have pushed me and made me keep going.”
In April 2015, Sheehan achieved a landmark feat executing the world’s first ever triple backflip on a motorcycle at Pastranaland.
The 2016 X Games took place from June 2 to 5 in Austin, Texas.
