The Lower South West Football League fought hard in their first match of the 2016 Landmark Country Football Championships but fell 10 points short against the Upper Great Southern Football League on Friday night.
Playing in Narrogin, the LSWFL side got off to a flyer to lead 4.3.27 to 1.4.10 at quarter time. The Rams rallied in the second term to trim the margin to just two points at the main break.
Lower South West again put on a spurt of determination to stretch the margin to seven at the final change but the Upper Great Southern side came storming home five goals to two in the final term to win 12.11.83 to 11.7.73.
The news was better for the Lower South West Football League’s colts side which competed in the weekend’s Great Southern Colts carnival. On Saturday the LSWFL defeated Upper Great Southern 20.5.125 to 5.5.35 and Peel 14.14.98 to 2.2.14 to advance to Sunday’s grand final.
The LSWFL side defeated Great Southern in that match 6.7.43 to 5.3.33 with Mitchell Daube kicking two goals.
