A Donnybrook couple were fed up of driving to Bunbury for their daily workout, so they opened up a gym of their own.
Fully-qualified personal trainers Harry and Andy Pulford made a significant investment to turn an old sea shed into an extensive gym by mid-March.
They both worked in the mines before starting Donnybrook Fitness Centre.
“We’re both health and fitness freaks, we love going to the gym,” Mr Pulford said.
Living in Donnybrook, the pair would drive to Bunbury every day to train.
“I want to get back into my bodybuilding, there just wasn’t enough weights equipment [at Donnybrook Recreation Centre].”
They have gained more members after three months than anticipated, he said.
The storm damage in January set them back by one month.
Mr Pulford is pleased to have bridged a gap in Donnybrook’s fitness scene.
“People who were training in Bunbury also that we weren’t aware of, have come and joined here, so they’re pretty happy as well.”
He said a “fair percentage” of their members are from small neighbouring towns.
Donnybrook Fitness Centre is located at 28 Sandhills Rd, open seven days a week from 5am-9pm.
