Donnybrook Para-equestrian rider Sharon Jarvis has been named on the 2016 Australian Paralympic Team for Rio de Janeiro.
It will be the second Paralympic Games for the 37 year old, who will be competing with horse Ceasy in Grade III classification events.
Jarvis placed fourth in the Individual Championship Test at the Beijing Games in 2008, and is.eager to attain a medal this September.
“Hearing that I was finally accepted was very exciting.”
She said it was difficult to assess her progress since her Beijing outing.
“My riding skills have definitely improved since then, I’m sitting on a different horse and we’re still blending a partnership together.”
Jarvis made her Australian debut in 2007, and showed the world what she was capable of when she won bronze medals in the individual test and freestyle test events at the 2010 World Equestrian Games.
Without a suitable horse to ride, Jarvis missed out on selection for the London 2012 Paralympic Games.
“There are lots of things to look forward to in Rio. I’m honoured to be able to represent my country,” she said.
“I expect to be able to perform to the absolute best of my ability and if that means bringing home a medal then that would be amazing.”
The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games will take place from September 7 to 18.
