The Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup needs $41,000 to fund the capital costs of installing an improved CCTV network in Donnybrook’s main street and the Apple FunPark.
The proposed system, comprising 19 state-of-the-art cameras, conforms with State CCTV Strategy requirements, which will allow the exchange of information between systems across the state.
The total project cost is about $138,000. The shire will receive about $97,000 from the Federal Government and is seeking to make up the shortfall from the State Government.
Former Donnybrook-Balingup chief executive John Attwood was hopeful of securing the additional $41,000 required to complete the “important project aimed at deterring crime”.
Sergeant Ryan van der Heide said the Donnybrook Police was supportive of the project.
There are four cameras currently installed in the town, however, their range and ability to identify detail such as faces and number plates is veritably limited.
Once the funding has been put in place, the whole process from procurement to commissioning should take about four months.
