Donnybrook Football Club stalwart Simon Parry has been selected for the New Holland state country team to take on South Australia Country in a clash at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.
Parry was the only South West player to make the 22 player team after an impressive display at the recent Landmark Country Football Championships in Perth.
The side’s coach Craig Walker said the chance to play as a curtain-raiser for the clash between the Adelaide Crows and the Essendon Bombers will be a once in a lifetime opportunity.
“This will be something which everyone can look back on fondly once they have finished playing and if they come away with a win, it will make it even more memorable,” he said.
Locally Parry’s Dons have kept their finals chances alive with a round 13 win over Carey Park.
The Panthers kept pace with the Dons through the first three terms, trailing by just four points at the final change. In the end, six goals to Jeff Smith helped Donnybrook get over the line 11.8.74 to 8.9.57.
To play finals, Donnybrook must close a two game margin on the top five with five games still to play.
The Donnybrook reserves lost a high scoring game to the Panthers 21.12.138 to 11.8.74.
Donnybrook’s colts side notched their second win of the year with a big win over Carey Park, claiming victory 14.15.99 to 5.3.33.
This Sunday, Donnybrook host South Bunbury.
