In order to clean up the roads of Pemberton, a paraplegic man brought in his 20 ton excavator.
Vegetation Management Group director Nilson Boutet spent two months cleaning up Old Vasse Highway from Karri Valley Resort to Pemberton.
Mr Boutet was involved in an accident six years ago, which left him paralysed.
After trying to get employment, it became clear that he needed to start his own business.
“Running my own business not only allows me to contribute back to society, I also feel I am giving back to the community by helping make our roads safer.”
He and his team cleared the dead trees laid on the “overgrown and poorly maintained” roads.
“Everyone is commenting saying 'it is the best the roads have ever looked',” he said.
He said they found the residents of Pemberton were friendly during the work.
“If anyone locally needs any help I’m happy to come down and help wherever I can.”
