Renowned West Australian director and actor Myles Pollard visited the Manjimup Education Support Centre as an Artist in Residence last Friday, providing students with the opportunity to gain a better understanding of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Myles conducts school workshops for the Bell Shakespeare national theatre company, which specialises in the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries.
The Logie award-winning former McLeod’s Daughters, Home Away, and Wolverine star had the students transfixed as he guided them through the highs and lows of life during the Macbeth period, helping benefit students on several fronts by building self-confidence, encouraging group participation and stimulating imaginations.
A fantastic time was had by all with students Josef Witek and Connor Giblett saying it was a great day away from the classroom.
“I thought it was very nice and a lot of fun and much better than sitting in a class all day,” Connor said.
“That was awesome and being the king was a great experience,” Josef said.
Manjimup ESC Principal Ron Ng said the visit from Myles was fantastic for his students and Shakespeare was just as relevant today as it was all those years ago.
“At MESC our aim is to have access to world quality education which is committed to building self esteem for young people through art,” Ron said.
“Shakespeare wrote about conflict, human emotion and family issues, which really is not too dissimilar to what these kids are dealing with in today's world.”
