Bridgetown Bulldog Brett Wilson has been crowned the Lower South West Football League’s fairest and best player for 2016 at the annual medal count ceremony at Manjimup Town Hall on Friday night.
Wilson has played all 16 games for Bridgetown this season and been a model of consistency, appearing in the best players list 13 times.
The dedicated club stalwart really stepped up this year, booting 24 goals including a haul of nine against Kojonup on August 13.
His efforts secured him the LSWFL Tyrepower Medal with 39 votes, ahead of Imperials Daniel McGinlay with 32 votes.
McGinlay joined the club at the start of the year after a number of successful seasons and two premierships with the Busselton Magpies in the South West Football League.
In 2016, McGinlay has played 12 games for Imperials, kicked 17 goals and been named on the best players list eight times.
He will be a key players across the midfield for a Magpies side keen to take home this year’s premiership cup.
Wilson, who is just 19-years-old also took out the medal for the best league player aged 21 years or younger and tied for the Peter Briggs Memorial Award with McGinlay.
Deanmill Hawk Brynn Francis was named the league’s leading goal kicker having notched 99 majors from 15 games. This is an increase on the 88 goals he kicked for Deanmill’s 2015 premiership winning side and more than most across WA’s country leagues.
James Mcalinden from Bridgetown was the top goal kicker in the reserves competition with 35 goals from 15 games while Bridgetown’s Jack Richards topped the colts competition.
Rounding out the night, Tigers Nathan Ward won the reserves fairest and best medal, Richards tied with Deanmill’s Josh DeCampo for the colts medal and Southerners’ Brett Dobson was named Landmark Country Football Carnival fairest and best.
