Young footballers from the Donnybrook, Bridgetown, and Manjimup regions participated in the recent WAFL Development Carnival.
The four games took place on September 27, 29, and October 4, 6.
The youngsters had the opportunity to represent the South West and compete against WAFL squads: Peel Thunder, Claremont, Swan Districts, and East Perth.
Jamie Douse, South West talent and coaching coordinator for the WAFC, said this was by far the most competitive intake over the past six years of running the carnival.
“Because it's the development carnival there isn’t a big emphasis on scoring,” he said.
There were 17 Y8s, 15 Y9s, and 13 Y10 footballers from the Donnybrook, Bridgetown, and Manjimup regions.
Douse pinpointed Will Omodei and Ted Baker from Southerners, Bridgetown’s Lewis Richings, Cooper Sparks of Deanmill, and Zac Trigwell from Donnybrook as the stand-out players.
Young footballers turning 16 get to represent their respective WAFL club at the WAFL 16s Carnival next March.
From there, the State 16s Academy squad will be selected.
