Spanner in the works health checks to increase men's health awareness

Spanner in the Works is a men's health initiative created with the intent to increase men's health awareness while combining the importance of receiving regular heath checks.

Manjimup CRC projects officer Debbie Vanderspil said the idea came about because men often looked after their cars better than they did their own bodies, and would neglect their own health check-up.

"It's a first in Manjimup. We're aiming to reach all 15 South West zone men's sheds plus men of all ages to come and participate. I'm hoping the schools will get their older students involved as well,” she said.

The event will have an expected participation rate of about 100 men.

"It's about bringing along a friend or family member or encouraging a youth member to get serious about their health.

"It isn't just about older blokes getting their blood pressure checked."

The free event aims to provide men with the necessary information in a relaxed, informal, and comfortable atmosphere to encourage men that a well-running body is more important than a well-running vehicle.

Spanner in the Works takes places on November 10 from 10am to 3pm at the Manjimup Men's Shed on Perup Rd.
