True Grit obstacle challenge returns to Newlands

The course, which is designed and operated by former commandos from the Australian Special Forces, is more than 10km in length and incorporates more than 30 military-style obstacles.

This will be True Grit’s third year running in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup.

Adam McNamee, True Grit race director, said the journey utilised unique terrain and vegetation across the course.

“Funnily enough, we actually get more females than males at our events so it's a pretty broad demographic of participants,” he said.

“We have everyone from mothers groups and gym groups through to individual athletes. Generally though, the course and the obstacles are designed to be either completed as an individual or depending on your fitness level in a group environment.”

McNamee is anticipating about 3000 participants across the weekend.

“Some of the psychological aspects include height obstacles, confined spaces, and cold water.”

There will be spectator areas, a DJ, an MC, food vendors, merchandise points and more all correlated within the festival area.

Tickets can be purchased on the day at Ryalls Rd, Newlands.

The event starts at 9am and costs $135 for the Saturday and $125 for the Sunday.
