Landowners are advised that Permits to Burn are required from November 1 to December 14. Before burning is permitted, landowners must obtain a permit from their local Fire Control Officer.
The Prohibited Burning Period will start from December 15.
Requirements for fire hazard reduction are set out in the Fire Break Order.
Landowners are required to comply with the Shire’s Fire Break Order prior to December 1.
After which, Shire Rangers will inspect rural and rural-residential properties throughout the district.
Failure to comply carries a minimum penalty of $250.
Firebreak work, including hazard reduction burns, should be well underway.
- Ben Rose
Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup chief executive Ben Rose said the more you prepared your property, the better the chance it would survive a bushfire.
“Fuel loads are expected to be extremely high due to the extended wet season,” he said.
“Taking the time to clear vegetation and rubbish from your property may be lifesaving.”
Shire Rangers are available to pre-inspect properties and advise owners on what they need to do to comply
Further information on how to prepare for the bushfire season is available from the Department of Fire and Emergency Services website.
