THE Donnybrook Cricket Club took 4 for 17 in the final half-hour of play to escape with an epic drawn game against ladder leaders Leschenault on Saturday at Egan Park.
Earlier in the day the Dons won the toss and elected to bat.
Openers Phil Welsh and James Harcourt got the home side off to a solid start with Welsh being the aggressor early.
He was eventually dismissed for 13 after one ball kept low and trapped him on the crease leg before wicket.
That wicket sparked a batting collapse as the home side lost its next three wickets for just 26 runs.
The returning Joel Parker's efforts didn't go unnoticed as he batted patiently at one end which allowed Harcourt to play his shots and he belted seven boundaries in his innings of 44.
Parker continued to give the opposition little opportunities as wickets fell around him until he was given out leg before wicket for 36.
Some tail end hitting again from Barry Kettlewell (18) proved to be valuable runs before the home side was eventually bowled out for 156 after 45 overs.
Donnybrook’s defence of the total began well with Brad Swarbrick (3-43) taking wickets in his second and third over and when Chris Morgan (3-35) and Kettlewell (1-35) opened their accounts the Dons were right in the contest at 6 for 76.
A solid 63-run partnership from Leschenault's middle order and a couple of missed opportunities from Donnybrook and it looked like the visitors were going to take full points until Norm Bedford (3-30) got the breakthrough wicket.
Morgan did the rest from their with a fiery last spell claiming two wickets in an over to help the Dons escape defeat as the two sides split the points .
Donnybrook’s D division team were also taking on a tough Leschenault side who proved to be just too strong on the day.
They went down by seven wickets.
Rob Cross (38) and Dean Smith (36) were best performers with the bat and Paul Johnston 1-24 did his best work with the ball.
