Horse enthusiasts, families and friends enjoyed their end of year celebrations and Gymkhana at the Blackwood Horse and Pony Club last weekend.
The program for the day included the Best presented in Hand, Hacking, Show Jumping, Fancy Dress and a number of games, including Bending, Mug Race and the Barrel Race.
Riders were judged and awarded on the day, with prizes awarded in each activity and certificates presented to all participants during the formal presentations.
Club Vice President, Rochelle Gear, said the day was a great way to celebrate the progression of the children during 2016 while having a lot of fun.
“This is all about fun, allowing all riders to participate, with all groups working together and supporting one another,” Rochelle said.
“They all put in so much effort for the competitions and everyone was rewarded for this during the presentations and even though the flies were thick, everyone tried their very best and had a really fun day.
“I would like to give a huge thanks the judges, Kerry, Amanda and Sue for their valuable time, and to Teena for providing an awesome Christmas canteen spread.”
The grounds of the club were in great condition for the end of season event, thanks to the hard work of club members and the Bunbury Regional Prison, Section 95er's, who have been maintaining the grounds on their behalf.
“We have been very lucky this year to have the Section 95er’s come along to help maintain the grounds, we really do appreciate it,” Rochelle said.
“We also have a very strong committee this year who have been working hard to make improvements and ensure the grounds are in great shape for our kids to use.
“Our next project is to get power to the club grounds, as we are keen to get rid of the ‘drop-toilet’ and upgrade our facilities, and of course we need power to make this happen.”
The Blackwood Horse and Pony Club is a non-profit organisation aimed at teaching and supporting students in all aspects of horse riding and husbandry.
Members participate in a number of activities away from the club grounds each year, including participating in regional agricultural shows.

“It would be great to get more people to come along and enjoy the great facilities we have available,” Rochelle said.
