If you have thought about giving back to the community in a way that enables you to encourage, mentor and empower young people then you may be exactly what Donnybrook Scout Group is looking for.
Group Leader Debbie Bourke said the group is seeking motivated people who are able to provide varied, exciting and dynamic programs for its Cub Pack and Scout Troop.
Scouts Australia provides training and support in all aspects of Scouting, youth leadership, programming and safety.
Leader training is provided through the Scouts Australia Institute of Training, which is accredited to award nationally-recognised VET qualifications in leadership and management.
A common statement from many of the parents who have become leaders at Donnybrook Scouts is: “I started helping out once a month, went on some camps and I loved it so much that now I’ve become a leader.”
Scout Leaders come from all walks of life, according to Ms Bourke. Some are parents of Scouts or have been childhood Scouts and some people have no Scouting experience at all.
Normally, leaders need to commit to group meetings one night per week during school term, a monthly leaders’ meeting, and a few weekends a year for outdoor activities such as hiking and camping trips.
Volunteering with Donnybrook Scouts gives leaders the opportunity to involve the whole family in new adventures together, to get active, learn new skills, be appreciated, meet people with similar values, travel within Australia and overseas and gain recognised qualifications.
