The work of disability support provider Cam Can has helped produce wonderful outcomes for a Bridgetown woman, her family and the community.
Tenille is a 33-year-old woman who lives in Bridgetown with her father, who is the local butcher.
Well-known through her involvement in arts, crafts, singing, dancing and playing netball, she also volunteers at the local Op Shop, Costume Magic and at Stepping Stones Child Care Centre.
Tenille is supported by Cam Can, a disability support provider, who were engaged by Tenille and her family to assist with skill development and independence.
Since she commenced support with Cam Can, Tenille has matured and developed a range of new skills.
She is now confident to work on her own while local Cam Can Service Coordinator, Liz Jordan, continues to work on expanding connections and developing her independence in the home.
Cam Can support staff have assisted Tenille to develop her independent living skills including regular household tasks such as cleaning, washing the dishes and her clothes.
Tenille has also expanded her kitchen skills by learning to cook a wide range of healthy meals.
These include meals made from vegetables she has grown in her own garden.
Feedback from Tenille’s family has been positive and they report having seen a huge improvement in her skill development in the home environment.
Tenille has also been supported by Cam Can to improve her reading skills.
This in turn has led to a valued role for Tenille at Stepping Stones Child Care Centre, where she is now able to read stories to the children, something she really enjoys doing.
She has also learned how to communicate more effectively with others using her iPad and mobile phone.
Tenille’s father has been so impressed with her progress and development, that he was able to take a two-week holiday knowing she was safe and able to look after herself.
The support Tenille has received from Cam Can has assisted her in making significant improvements in the way she connects with others in her community.
